One hundred Mammography Associates have now been trained via the NBIA apprenticeship training centre representing a major milestone in our mission to improve workforce shortages in breast imaging,
Launched in 2019, the Mammography Associate Apprenticeship Programme was designed to provide a high-quality training pathway for individuals keen to make a vital contribution to breast cancer services. The programme equips apprentices with the skills and knowledge needed to perform routine two-view mammograms and support the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Commenting on the milestone, Lyndsay Kinnear NBIA Radiographic Lead said:
“Over the past five years, the Mammography Associate apprenticeship gone from strength to strength and we are delighted we are playing our part supporting so many apprentices through the programme. Feedback from both apprentices and NHS Trusts highlights its success in providing a rewarding career pathway while strengthening breast imaging teams across the UK.”
The NBIA offers a blended training programme with a mixture of virtual and face to face teaching. Our apprenticeship programme has seen successful trainees from across England, attracted by the quality of the academic and clinical training at the renowned Nightingale Centre at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
