Announcing the launch of the NBIA Academic Fellowship

We’re delighted to announce the launch of the NBIA academic fellowship, a new research opportunity in breast radiology. Developed in collaboration with breast radiologists from across the country and colleagues within the BSBR, the fellowship is supported by NHS England (NHSE).

The first academic fellow has been appointed at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. The fellow will engage in research projects that lead to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) postgraduate degree from the University of Newcastle.

Commenting on the new fellowship, Dr Mary Wilson, Consultant Breast Radiologist and Programme Lead for the NBIA programme said:

“Our new academic fellowship builds on our commitment to developing the next generation of researchers and leaders in breast radiology. This unique training post enables fellows to develop their research skills and lead on impactful research while enhancing their expertise in breast imaging.”

Research projects will be developed in consultation with project supervisors, based on feasibility and potential clinical impact. This ensures that fellows can expand their research expertise while consolidating their clinical practice.

The fellowship is jointly funded by NHSE, through the NBIA, and the employing Trust. It is intended for individuals who have completed radiology specialty training and are looking to broaden their competencies through advanced research training.
