The National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA), working in partnership with the Nightingale Centre at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, will deliver its next FRCR 2B Breast Imaging Course in June 2026, continuing a long‑established programme that supports progression and confidence within the radiology workforce.
The course, which has been running for more than a decade, remains the only UK course dedicated exclusively to breast imaging for the FRCR 2B examination. It was developed to address a recognised gap in national training, particularly for trainees who may have limited formal exposure to breast imaging during general radiology training.
Delivered as an intensive one‑day virtual programme, the course supports NBIA’s wider workforce objectives by helping trainees develop diagnostic capability at a critical stage of their training. Participants work through a broad range of benign and malignant breast cases, with imaging covering mammography, ultrasound and breast MRI. Teaching is structured around vivas and long cases that closely reflect the FRCR 2B examination format, ensuring relevance to both assessment and real‑world clinical practice.
For participants, the course provides an opportunity to build confidence in breast imaging, practise structured case discussion and refine examination technique within a supportive and educational environment. Experienced breast radiologists deliver the teaching and provide clear, structured feedback, which trainees consistently report as valuable in preparing for the examination and future consultant practice.
As well as supporting individual trainees, the course contributes directly to the NBIA’s mission to strengthen the future breast imaging workforce, supporting successful progression through postgraduate examinations and into substantive roles. The virtual delivery model reflects the NBIA’s commitment to high‑quality, accessible training available to trainees across the UK.
