What is it?
The NBIA was awarded funding in January to support the development of seven innovative educational projects specifically related to breast imaging training. We advertised this bursary widely and had a number of applications from a wide range of centres across England.
Our panel has recently awarded money to 5 projects which we felt supported educational developments across the workforce. We were looking for innovative proposals with wide educational benefit to the breast imaging workforce and have stipulated that any resources created should be made widely available through the NBIA. We were not able to fund training for specific members of staff within an individual unit, though we are exploring with HEE other ways we may be able to help with this.
The projects supported so far are:
- development of resources to support radiographic mentors
- an ABS-linked project to develop resources to support medical student training within breast services
- educational videos to provide training on optimal use of new features of modern ultrasound machines
- development of new resources to upskill non breast radiologists and symptomatic-only breast radiologists
- a study evaluating learning of abbreviated MRI
We have retained funding for two further bursaries as we felt the other applications did not meet our criteria and we would welcome further applications. We are keen to receive proposals that support the NBIA values of collaboration, innovation and excellence, and are particularly interested in supporting projects in the areas of apprenticeship development, new technologies, and the development/evaluation of teaching resources.
If you feel you have a project that might fit one of these criteria, or indeed have another idea that would be of value to the wider breast imaging workforce, we would love to hear from you.
