The NBIA is pleased to join Prevent Breast Cancer’s first Research conference which is being held in Manchester on 24th and 25th September 2024. Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity committed solely to predicting and preventing breast cancer.
A range of breast care experts from the Nightingale Centre at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be joined by others from across the country to present their research, covering topics from personalised screening to predicting young onset breast cancer. We are also excited to hear there are two renowned international speakers confirmed, Dr Andrea de Censi, an expert in cancer preventive therapy and Professor Adetunji Toriola, winner of the 2022 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research.
Commenting on the conference, Dr Mary Wilson, Consultant Breast Radiologist at the Nightingale Centre and National Lead of the National Breast Imaging Academy said:
“This conference is a fantastic opportunity to learn and be inspired by the breadth of research taking place to tackle breast cancer.”
Alongside a comprehensive programme that covers the current status of breast cancer prevention, the conference will include updates on the following studies:
- BRAID: This study aims to find out whether extra scans with one of several types of scans, help diagnose breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue.
- MyPeBS: Comparing personalised breast cancer screening with the standard breast cancer screening for women between 40 and 70 years old.
- POSH: A study looking at the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in younger women with and without an inherited genetic change.
- Sarah Harding Legacy: BCAN-RAY (Breast Cancer Risk Assessment in Young Women) has been set up following Sarah’s dying wish to find new ways to spot the signs of the disease earlier.
The conference also provides a great opportunity for breast care professionals and teams to present their latest work and research ideas. Prevent Breast Cancer is accepting submissions for two types of abstracts, for oral presentations relating to the prevention of breast cancer at the conference. All applicants must hold a ticket to the Prevent Breast Cancer research conference to be able to apply and details of how to submit an entry can be found below:
- Original Data – Submit an abstract of less than 250 words for oral presentation of original research data. Lead authors of the selected presentations will be invited to give an 8 minute presentation to allow plenty of time for questions. Find out more and submit your abstract.
- Dragons’ Den – This Dragons’ Den style session invites you to submit research ideas for which you need funding. You will be invited to pitch your idea to a panel of experts and the conference delegates. The successful candidate(s) will receive a Prevent Breast Cancer grant for up to £10,000 to fund their research idea. Find out more and submit your research idea for the Dragons’ Den.
