The National Breast Imaging Academy and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust’s Breast Surgery Department developed a clinical breast examination course which has been running since April 2022. The course has been designed for a wide range of health professionals, including doctors, nurses, and radiographers.
The Manchester team, led by Mr Sumohan Chatterjee, Katy Ellis and Claire Robinson, have been working with Dr Soumen Das, Dr Rahul Agarwal and Dr Kamalesh Rakshit at the Institute of Breast Disease, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Hospital in Kolkata to develop a clinical breast examination course for delivery in India. This is aimed at healthcare associates, physician assistants, community health officers and nursing practitioners. This course will provide training on clinical breast examination, the basics of breast cancer management, referral pathways, and self-examination.
The course will be hybrid, running over one day, with talks by Katy Ellis and Claire Robinson delivered virtually from the UK; and practical sessions delivered face-to-face and overseen by Sumohan Chatterjee.
The NBIA is excited to be working in association with the Kolkata Institute of Breast Disease to bring clinical breast examination expertise to a new audience.
