The National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) is pleased to announce the launch of a new e-learning session on Paediatric Breast Disease, developed as part of the NBIA e-learning programme in collaboration with NHS England’s Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) e-learning team. The session, now available on e-Learning for Healthcare platform, is designed to support breast imaging professionals in understanding and addressing breast problems in children and teenagers – an often under-explored area of practice.
The session provides insights into the normal development of the breast and offers practical guidance on imaging approaches tailored to paediatric cases. It also introduces a comprehensive range of conditions that may affect the paediatric breast.
Dr Megan Bydder, Consultant Breast Radiologist and Lead for the NBIA Academy Online, highlighted the importance of this new resource:
“Breast problems in children and teenagers are almost always benign, but they can cause significant anxiety for patients and their families. This e-learning session describes the normal development of the breast and outlines an approach to imaging breast problems in children. It also presents a range of conditions which can occur in the paediatric breast in order to equip breast imaging specialists with the knowledge needed to make a confident and accurate diagnosis.”
The programme has been developed by leading experts in breast imaging and its flexible online format ensures accessibility for imaging professionals across the UK and beyond.
The NBIA Academy Online continues to grow as a vital educational hub for breast imaging professionals, offering a wide array of e-learning modules covering topics from clinical techniques to emerging technologies. These resources are designed to support continuous professional development and enhance the delivery of breast care services.
