A mammography associate/assistant practitioner training programme is now being delivered at the Nightingale Centre Manchester, one of England’s leading breast units in one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK.
The mammography associate/assistant practitioner training is a 12-month (fulltime) programme specifically for trainees based in Wales, Scotland and Ireland who are unable to take advantage of the apprenticeship programmes being delivered in England due to funding rules.
The programme will follow the same format as the apprenticeship but will not result in a Level 4 apprenticeship certificate. A certificate of completion will be issued by the NBIA.
Training at the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) offers trainees:

Practical training will primarily be ‘on-the job’ and employer led however, A 2-day clinical placement at the Nightingale Centre within the first few months of the programme, followed by a 1-day clinical placement mid-programme is recommended. The course cost is £5000 per trainee.
Mammography Associates work within Breast Screening Programmes and symptomatic services undertaking routine two-view mammography, producing images of consistently high quality to meet rigorous standards.
