Closure of the MTI Scheme

The Medical Training Initiative [MTI] is closing to new applicants at noon on 31st March 2026.

While enormously beneficial for doctors from low and middle income countries, hospitals in the UK and patients around the world, NHS England has taken the decision to end the current scheme.

The 1,600 or so doctors currently on placements in the UK will not be affected and of course will be able to complete their two-year attachment.

Academy and medical royal college staff thank the thousands of doctors who participated in the ‘earn, learn and return’ scheme over the past decade.

National Breast Imaging Academy Clinical Fellow – International Sponsorship Requirements

We welcome applications from international candidates. Applicants must have equivalent qualifications and be eligible to work in the UK.

Due to the closure of the Medical Training Initiative Scheme, there is now only one route available:

Tier 2 visa – this route is suitable for candidates who either have:

- PLAB https://www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/join-the-register/plab/a-guide-to-the-plab-test
